Algorithm to end Design

A design for an algorithm to end Design
The starting point for this project were my reflections about purity of form and
function.
I dare to say:

There is only one good, correct, proper design solution for a precisely and well- defined problem.
Assuming that this statement is true, we can easily conclude, that a well designed algorithm could, based on conditions, needs, requirements, limitations for a design problem, find this one good solution.

This project is an attempt at sketching out this algorithm and an interface for future designer in a world where creative work is completelty redefined from „creating a functional and beautiful form” to a rational problem analysis.
Mock-up
The interface of an application created to generate form with the algorithm. The interaction is as simple as choosing more and more precise options in a tree. Designer can also use a special script language to write precise commands.

Here we see a task of an object with function „sitting” made from wood. The result is a stool made entirely of solid wood. The algorithm also optimises for ecological footprint.
If we define material more precisely to be plywood, we get a stool that’s almost exactly Alvar Aalto Artek stool. A proof that it’s a perfectly rational design.

In other parts of the app we can precisely define parameters of the user, add optional written content on the product and get a list of parts. In the end we download a nice and tidy folder of 3d models and technical drawings.
